The Faces of JTB—Matt Pieper, Regional Sales Manager

JTB Supply is grateful to be a company full of team players. Matt Pieper specifically, Regional Sales Manager for Southern California, has been an instrumental part of the company’s success for over two decades.

Get to know Matt, who considers himself a Missouri and Southern California native.

A Tenured Relationship Builder

Matt’s career began at JTB while earning his communications degree at CSU Fullerton. Matt has a knack for learning on the job­—aiding product deliveries and signal assembly from the get-go.

In 2002, Matt eagerly took on a new challenge as a salesperson before being promoted to Regional Sales Manager.

As a regional sales manager, Matt’s primary role is relationship building with public agencies. More technically speaking, he functions as a consultant to city and county leaders, helping them find the proper traffic signal equipment for intersections and public roadways. “It’s all about building trust,” he says. “I like working with people and doing what it takes to earn their trust. Then, I can match their traffic needs with reliable products I know they can count on.”

There’s Always Room for Proactivity

JTB is a small business which comes with its quirks. But, for Matt, being part of a small team fosters a tight-knit environment and the ability to offer customers a more personalized experience. “I love the fact that JTB is a smaller company with only fourteen employees,” Matt explains. “One of the best attributes we have to offer is customer service. I hear from clients all the time that we are responsive and reliable—If we say we’re going to do something, we do it.”

Although Matt describes the team as small, the range of clients and traffic signal manufacturers is wide. Even so, that doesn’t stop him from making room to hear concerns and come up with proactive solutions. “If there are delays from a manufacturer, we aren’t afraid to be honest with our clients and let them know exactly what’s going on,” he says. “Sometimes, I discover that a client needs a product from a manufacturer we don’t normally represent. But if it’s the best product for our client, we’ll get it for them. Hands down.”

From Missouri to Orange County

Although a Missouri native, Matt’s father’s time serving in the Air Force led them to Orange County when he was only two years old. In a sense, Matt considers himself a true Southern California native. Today, he lives in Yorba Linda with his wife, three children, and golden retriever—who love the beach as much as the family. “Some of our favorite days are spent at the beach.
